Upcoming in the NOVA PDF Print E-mail

We're excited to announce two jams occurring in March that should be a lot of fun.  The first takes place this weekend in DuPont Circle.  Pilou of the DC Metro Parkour community, our resident Frenchman, has been studying Hebertism, or la methode naturelle, for some time and has decided to perform a "sampler" meet of MN-style training.  The second meet will be March 14th on the Virginia side of Great Falls.  This is yet another natural setting training session, which will be a great change of pace for most of the traceurs in Northern Virginia.  Continue reading for full meet details.

Also, I want to extend a shout-out to Casey Boatwright, otherwise known as InMythGodIsForce, for stepping up and taking charge of the Richmond Parkour community.  This community has gone through a number of leaders from time to time, only to have that leader lose interest and the community fizzle away before returning again.  Hopefully, with Casey at the helm, there can be some consistency in Richmond.  Expect some big things in that area in the future!

------------

Hébert Training - March 7th, 9:00AM
DuPont Circle to Rock Creek Parcourse
Notes: (from Pilou) If you're interested, meet me inside the Dupont Circle circle at 9AM sharp (meaning we start moving at 9AM, so be there a bit earlier). My goal is to start from there, head down to Rock Creek Park, follow the parcourse, and run back. Expect lots of running (compared to a Parkour jam), and travel light as we won't stay in any one place for very long.  Call 443 85 8 4193 if you cannot find us.

(from Animus) You must be in a decent physical conditioning to participate in this event.  Parcourse training and MN-style training are not for the faint of heart.

An Afternoon at Great Falls, VA - March 14th, 12:30PM
9200 Old Dominion Dr.
McLean, VA 22102

Notes: Meeting at the entrance, should be difficult to miss the group.

Parkour Saved My Life PDF Print E-mail

Post from Ryan Drake

"Well, tonight I was ambushed by 4 teens about my age and size, who were trying to rob me as I walked to the metro alone from the gym.  They sort of circled me and I was trapped."

Everyone does parkour for their own reasons whether it is to progress them selves as a person, to become more fit, or to progress their movement. Whatever it may be, there is an underlying use for parkour that many people think about but never see that it can come as a reality. Some people will say to you when you show them parkour, "Wow, you could definitely outrun the cops," well thats not all you can do with parkour. You train your body to overcome obstacles so that for that one moment, you will be able to flee from your enemies without getting injured and with no restraints. Check out Ryan's story to see how parkour saved his life.

New MEDIA Section and News Feed!!! PDF Print E-mail

PKVA has some awesome new additions and upgrades to our site. The first thing is that we have a News Feed Section on the forum under Statewide Community. This section is where you can discuss any articles posted on the homepage. What will happen is when there is a new article posted on the Home Page, a new thread with the same article will be posted in the News Feed section and you can discuss the article!

Thanks to Leon, Knox, and Blanc, PKVA has a new MEDIA section!!!

Before, there was a difficult uploading system on our site. Now, if you go to the MEDIA tab and click Photos on the drop-down, it goes to a Parkour Virginia Facebook Group. There, if you join, you can add all of your PKVA related photos!

Also, we have completely changed our Video section. Instead of a lame page with some videos on it, we have made it easier to stay organized and have more people access it. We have a new ParkourVirginia Youtube Channel that will have playlists of all the parkour videos in Virginia! Whether its an individual sampler to a training video, or college jams to state-wide jams, its going to be on there.

If you would like to submit a video and have us upload it onto YouTube for you under the ParkourVirginia YouTube channel, email Knox at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  with a title, description, and the video itself and we can upload it onto our channel and put it on the playlists! If would like your video featured on our channel in the playlists but still have all of your original comments and ratings, email  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  with the link to your video and we can put it up!!!

Lets get this media flowing like our parkour so everyone can see how awesome PKVA is!!!!!

Rock climbing is an excellent supplement to your parkour training. It helps build strength all around your body, but especially grip and upper body. It also challenges you to think creatively and push forward to find new paths. If you're up near Alexandria, VA you should check out SportRock for indoor rock climbing as the weather gets colder :)
