How is this meet going to work?

We will start out with a warm-up and joint rotation.  The warm-up will vary each week, but likely have similar ideas each time, depending on the themed training that will follow.  After the warm-up, time will be given to rest before a more intensive conditioning segment approaches.  The conditioning will be light in nature, but enough to tax the body before any technical training.  The conditioning may or may not directly lead into the themed training.  After the conditioning, we will train the theme in various ways before resting again.  At this point, the day is opened up for "free play" and working on individual training.  All participants are free to continue themed training if desired.  At the end of the session, a brief ten minute group stretch is mandatory.

Themed training meets are intended to avoid the monotony of drilling individual techniques unless it offers focus on a greater, overarching goal.  They are also designed to properly build a foundation in Parkour.  The foundation is a strong body and the ability to run, climb, jump, and crawl.  Themed training focuses on developing movement, not techniques; Parkour, not a tricklist.

 Visitor Parking

From Braddock road, you're going to turn into GMU on Roanoke River Road (NOT Sideburn.. you WILL get lost).  Follow the road and the first fork, you go RIGHT to start going toward the visitor parking.  Once you're around the pond, ther'ell be another fork.. go left.  The visitor parking is at the end of this road.

If you're just being dropped off, you still want to be dropped off at this point.  There's a crosswalk, get dropped off there.. have your driver make a U-turn and go back out (rather than turning around at the actual visitor parking deck).  As for yourself, you're going to want to walk straight down into the university AWAY from the pond.  You'll run into the fine arts building.. go left when you reach it until you get to the next intersection of walkways.. you'll see fountains to the right.. go past them until you get to the big circle thing.

ParkourVirginia.com Is Up!! PDF Print E-mail

Let me be the first to grant you a warm welcome to ParkourVirginia.com, home to all traceurs in the state of Virginia. We have quite a bit of history here in Virginia, as we were one of the first states to pick up Parkour from Europe almost 6 years ago. Fast forward to the future and we now have a large community across the entire state with an ever growing number of dedicated traceurs springing forth! This website wsas created to keep the entire community in the loop  with upcoming Jams and Events, resources to help us spread, and links to keep us connected to other communities on a national scale!

Let me be the first to say that this site is dependant on the community. It needs all of us to post up jams in the forums and make changes to our resources so we cna continue to grow. If you have any comments at all feel free to email us using the Contact Us link at the top. Here's a quick list of things you can help out with:

- Hotspots map: This is a huge project intended to bring all of Virginia's hotspots onto one google map so we can see all the spots available to us. The bigger it gets, the more useful it is as a tool since traceurs from all around the world can come to Virginia and find all the best spots we have to offer.

- Contacts list: Another big project, this one is for our own developmental purposes in Virginia. This is a big state, so it's very hard to keep in touch with people and find people to train with. Our goal is to have every area of Virginia represented by a traceur. If you lead a small group in your area, or if you're the only one and would like some company, PLEASE email us so we can add you to the list. That way other traceurs can find you and link up to make training more enjoyable :)

- College list: Like the list above, our goal is to give a nice overview of which college campuses are being overrun by traceurs. If you're part of a group from a college that's not represented, please let us know so we can toss you up!

- Jams/News: Anytime theres a jam going down in your area, let us know so we cna post it up. We'll be monitoring our forum on AmericanParkour.com and tossing information up from there. If you have some sort of news, say you were interviewed for a local paper or you just started up a sweet club, or you found an awesome hotspot, LET US KNOW and we'll post it up on the main page.

Take a look around and enjoy YOUR website. Please help us grow and you'll see how worthwhile this venture will be!!!!

Train hard, train safe!

Rock climbing is an excellent supplement to your parkour training. It helps build strength all around your body, but especially grip and upper body. It also challenges you to think creatively and push forward to find new paths. If you're up near Alexandria, VA you should check out SportRock for indoor rock climbing as the weather gets colder :)

Ever wanted to know if that college you're applying to has some top notch freerunning going on? Check out our list of Virginia Colleges that have parkour clubs/groups associated with them. If you're a college group leader and your not on the list, contact us so we can throw you up!!

Want to let people know you're available for training in your area? One of the many problems people face is not finding training partners in their area. Now you can add yourself to our Virginia Contacts list - a public list with basic contact information so other traceurs can see if you're in the area. Contact us if you're interested in putting your name on the list!
