I've found some really awesome places to train in the last few months right around my neighborhood, and I'm not exaggerating when I say that Ballston might be the best area for parkour in the DC metro area. I understand that I live in the area and I'm a little biased, but seriously...you guys gotta see some of this!
Some of it's far apart, so we'll need some cars involved here. Spots I'd like to hit up: Powhatan Springs Skate Park, the "Miracle Mile" just north of Fairfax Blvd. that Brandon introduced me to, and this cool spot just off Washington Blvd. behind FDIC that has ramps and rails that absolutely must be jumped on, around, and over. It's fantastic.
Once we've finished up, we'll adjourn to the Smoothie King located conveniently in the same building as my apartment and suck down some icy-cold freshness, and possibly some PERUVIAN CHICKEN (boo-ya!).

Talks have started with Gold's Gym, International to begin offering a Parkour program at their Clarendon gym in Arlington. This will be the first commercial gym to offer a Parkour program in the country. With all due luck, any additional programs that the corporation wishes to offer at other locations will require an "OK" from one of the major American Parkour organizations out there (APK, PKNA, or PNWPA); however, we shall see how it goes. In addition, this may be the only time that a commercial gym offers anything of this sort without the obligation of a membership to pre-qualify. We will keep you updated as information comes. The program will most likely consist of technical practice, development of explosive power, and strength and conditioning. Wish us luck. |
